Arles

Arles, 2014.

Black and white for the same reason Avignon was in black and white. I think I could have done a bit better here. There were a lot of lovely things in Arles, but I struggled to determine how best to capture it.

This seems a bit soft but I'm not sure why. There's no technical reason for it to be not quite in focus, but I don't remember if I swung the camera up too quickly to catch the moment, or if I swung the camera away too quickly because I was afraid she'd notice. Either way, meh.

I think I could spend a long time being constantly fascinated by the streets and building frontages in Europe. It could be the novelty because there are quite a lot of samey and modern looking spaces at home, but it's also the different way that people view and use their space in other places, and the adaptations made for the culture and environment. For example, you wouldn't see the kinds of windows, doors and treatments used in Europe in Australia. And for the few people who might have them here, I wonder how they find it in terms of practicality and functionality.

Another iPhone 5s photo that turned out better than expected. Given the success people have with competitive iPhoneography, I don't know why I'm still surprised. The textures show up better than I hoped. I'm now curious if I could have gotten a decent shot a few steps back to get more of the latin inscription in. But I'm not sure if the windows in the top corners will have worked very well.

Not particularly fascinating, but the cloud texture works alright as a backdrop to the statue. I wonder if it would have looked better if the shot was better exposed so the clouds didn't look so blown out just behind the statue, but if more cloud texture was visible it might have made the statue not stand out as much.
