Barcelona
Barcelona, Spain.

I find doors and graffiti interesting individually and in combination. This was in Plaça de George Orwell, but I saw this before I knew where we were. It seemed so random in its existence here because I was unaware of Orwell's relationship with Spain. Either way, it made me wonder if it was a social comment or some other subversive suggestion. The faces in the graffiti on the other door are also interesting, as is the melange of art and tags. Are the faces watching you?

This is the most 'street' photo I have. In that it's close to a street, and has people in it. I'm a wee bit OCD about the shadow cut off on the left, but I like that there are people walking down the stairs and an empty escalator on the other side. Also, that the escalator is outdoors. I had submitted this as one of my critique photos for my workshop with Eric Kim, and he suggested that this photo could have been more interesting if an overweight person was on the escalator, and in terms of humour, I agree. But I also like what it might convey with noone on the escalator. Less is more?

More of an architecture shot, which is what I prepared for for this trip. I was travelling only with a 17-35mm aspherical lens in anticipation of lots of very nice architecture, and left the 35mm mostly at home. I love how this turned out, nice shadows accentuating the curves, but you can't really go wrong with Gaudí. And Casa Batlló is both beautiful and macabre all at once. I'm sure I'm not the only person in the world who has photographed it low and wide, but I like it all the same.

Spirals of stairs. I love the warm colour, too. And does having my feet there count as a selfie? I don't have anything else to say about this one. It's quite self-explanatory.

This one is the one I'm least happy about. Even at 17mm I couldn't frame this better due to how narrow the space in the stairwell was. Though I might have gotten a touch more distance by standing aside and positioning the camera against the wall. I would have liked more room around the window with more texture of the wall. Having the window more straight would have been nice too, but I would have lost wall texture by getting the right angle for the window. In addition to doors and graffiti, I also have a thing for views out of windows with the window detail in silhouette.
